With flights to more than 80 destinations worldwide, Glasgow International Airport is one of Scotland’s main air hubs. Conveneintly located just eight miles from Glasgow city centre, the facility offers excellent transport links and is easy to access by road via the M8 motorway. The airport handles over seven million passengers a year.
Numerous carriers operate from the single terminal, which is easy to navigate. The airport consists of a ground floor concourse that is divided into areas for Check-in, Domestic Arrivals and International Arrivals. Meanwhile, the majority of the airport’s facilities are situated on the first floor including shops, eateries, cafés and bars.
Passenger facilties at the terminal are excellent, with money changing facilities located on both the first and ground floors, while ATMs are dotted throughout. Additional amenities include a pharmacy and a post office. Eateries and dining options are good, with popular outlets including Garfunkel's, McDonald's, Costa and Weavers Café as well as the J&R Tennant's pub that serves up a selection of alcoholic drinks. Shopping is mainly situated on the first floor, with everything from duty-free to clothing, book and jewellery outlets available as well as stores selling speciality products from Scotland. Disabled passengers are well catered for with wheelchair-accessible toilets, lifts and ramps.
There are some business facilties at the airport including telephones and fax facilities at the business workstation, which is situated on the first floor, next to gates 1 and 2.
Transport and parking at Glasgow International Airport
Access to rail links is provided by shuttle buses, which travel the two-mile journey to Paisley Station, from where there are regular rail links to Glasgow Central Station, the Clyde Coast and Ayr. From Glasgow Central Station there are frequent rail connections to destinations nationwide.
Alternatively, passengers can take a shuttle bus to the city centre, with services operated by Citylink and Airport Express departing regularly throughout the day for destinations across the city as well as to Gourock and Greenock, from where it is possible to catch ferry connections. Taxis are also on hand outside the terminal 24 hours.
Both short-term and long-term parking are offered at Glasgow International Airport and there are two different parking facilities available. The short-term car park is located near to the terminal and is accessible on foot, while the long-stay car park is a 10 minute free shuttle ride away. The long-term car park is also suitable for short-term parking, but the minimum change at this facility is for one day therefore those wishing to leave their vehicles for less lengthy periods should use the short-stay car park.
